Renting a Boat: Boat Rental Guide

Boat Rental Guide

At Maui Boating, we have a selection of Glacier Bay catamarans that are adaptable to a wide range of needs. However, how do you make sure that they’re the right boat for you? Whether you’re looking for the right vessel to meet the needs of your trip, or you’re thinking about making a purchase but want to try before you buy, we’re more than happy to help you find the boat rental that you need in our Boat Rental Guide.

If you’re uncertain about what goes into the boat rental process, and what you should be aware of when you’re choosing both a boat and service provider. As such, you should be confident and happy with your choice and how you navigate the market.

Choosing the right boat rentals

At Maui Boating, we consider ourselves the best team when it comes to Molokini boat rentals, with a range of outstanding Glacier Bay catamarans just ready to take you on an adventure. However, we want to make sure that you get the right boat for you, so instead of choosing a provider first, choose what activities you want to do first.

Whether it’s for watersporting activities, fishing in the open sea, having a party on deck, or simply exploring, you will most certainly find the boat rental service for you. Our six person catamarans offer plenty of space for everyone, and we offer snorkel rentals and fishing excursions, for instance, so we can help meet a wide range of demands.

Before you agree to rent a boat from any company or owner, make sure that you can trust their reputation, first of all. Take a look at any reviews they might have online, and don’t be afraid to ask the provider about repairs and maintenance for their boats. You don’t want your day getting spoiled by a beat up boat and a reputable, trustworthy provider will assure you that their vessel is in the condition you need it to be in.

Do you need a license to drive the boat?

Effectively, you do need a license to rent a boat in the State of Hawaii. However, we are glad to give you on the spot instructions. Our orientation and safety briefing satisfies the requirements of the state enough for a single day use pass. We don’t charge for this pass at all. This gives you the freedom to be your own captain, to take your adventure where you want, and do what you want. We provide the boat and the equipment, you bring the sense of adventure.

If you’re very new to boating, then you can hire a boating instructor. This way, you can learn as you adventure with a very hands-on teaching experience. Enjoy a day out on the gorgeous waters of Maui throughout a 2.5 hours long course, looking over navigation basics, boating rules, communication, anchoring, emergency procedures and much more. By the end, you’ll be confident enough to rent a boat and take it for a spin on the ocean on your own.

Are there any specific rules that you have to follow?

Do your research on the USCG Rules of the Road, first of all. As for any other rules of the water that you might need to follow, we will cover it all throughout our orientation. If you have any specific concerns, then we recommend that you ask about them before you leave the dock. We’ll do what we can to make sure that you’re informed, comfortable, and confident about the trip ahead.

Boat Rental Guide

How much do boat rentals cost?

Simply put, boat rental can be as cheap or as expensive as it gets. Naturally, you don’t want to go too cheap, as that means that it’s likely that you’re getting a very beat-up boat indeed. Your choice of boat will factor into pricing a great deal, too. At Maui Boating, you can get one of our catamarans for 2.5 hours for a very cost effective $395, or for 6 hours at $795.

In most cases, the longer rental periods are always going to be the most cost-effective. However, you need to also consider any additional costs, such as the snorkel rental available at Maui Boating. Furthermore, most boat rental companies do not provide free fuel. You get the boat fully fuelled up, but you have to pay for the refueling after.

Do you have to be a certain age for a boat rental?

Most rental companies have an age requirement, especially for power boat rentals. This is usually around 18, but can be as high as 21 or 25. Simply put, boat rental companies want to ensure that everyone on board is reliable and mature enough to be safe and responsible on the boat.

Do I need to bring anything on the boat with me?

When it comes to the essentials, such as fuel for the boat, then we ensure that you have no worries, make sure that the vessel is completely topped up and ready for a day of adventure before you get out on the water. Fuel costs are billed at the end of the trip, but you don’t have to worry about doing any refueling yourself.

However, when it comes to food & drink, entertainment and activities, and fishing rods, you may have to bring them yourself. At Maui Boating, we also offer fishing excursions and snorkel rentals, providing the equipment that you need for the specific activities that you have planned. Don’t be afraid to ask us what we provide for any trip, we’ll be glad to help you figure out and plan the trip well.
